Ruairidh MacRatha of Cusidh*** competed at his first show at the Scottish Kennel Club August Championship show at the tender age of three. This was a very special day for us as Ruairidh is a result of over 10 years of breeding from an original Deerhound * Greyhound mating. Ruairidh was registered as a Deerhound by the Kennel Club last year (click here for some further details) but had not previously been to any shows. However, we decided to take the plunge this year and after a bath and attendance at a couple of training classes in Perth with Claire we hoped he was ready.

So how did it go? Well Ruairidh was absolutely excellent and took everything in his stride. We were surprised how well he took to the ring - in fact he stood better for the Judge than all of the other more experienced Cusidh hounds put together! Then to have him placed second in a strong Post Graduate Dog class with eight dogs present was an absolute delight. Indeed he has now qualified for Crufts. Congratulations Ruairidh and here's to your Great, Great Greyhound Granny.

A very big thank you to everyone who has helped and supported us over the years with Ruairidh and his past breeding and to our Judge Dr Marjorie McKinnon. Here are some pictures of our day.

The Judges critique was " Cartmell's Ruairidh Macratha of Cusidh.*** Slightly smaller dog but again with a conformation suggesting speed matched with strength. Head with slightly more marked stop than ideal. Well muscled and balanced. Nicely sloping pasterns and good feet".

Well done Ruairidh - we are all ever so proud of you.

So what did Ruairidh get up to later? Well obviously after a tiring day looking handsome some down time was required on his favourite sofa.

However, he was up and about the next day and managed a trip to the Bannestane or Bunnet Stane in Fife.
